Abstract

Engineering at the intersection of mathematics, computation, and real-world systems.

I'm a software engineer and researcher. I build backend systems for fintech in Go, study the mathematics behind how systems behave, and work on autonomous robotics research. I like problems that sit between disciplines.

HAUV

Autonomous Hull Screening for Nigerian Ports: Stable Air–Water Transition for a Hybrid Aerial-Underwater Vehicle

ActivePoster presented · MIRG-ICAIR 2026

A small autonomous vehicle that can fly to a ship, inspect its hull from the air, enter the water, inspect below the waterline and come back. My research asks how to keep it stable as it crosses the boundary between air and water.

These results come from simulation. They have not been validated on a physical prototype or in the field.

Things I've built and studied

  1. Case studyCompleted

    Loan details API performance

I traced a slow loan details endpoint to an N+1 query problem and fixed it, so the endpoint responds far faster.

  2. Case studyCompleted

    Stale data cleanup

I cleaned up stale database records at large scale, freeing storage and helping reduce database infrastructure costs.

  3. ResearchCompleted

    Dechorder

My B.Sc. thesis: splitting a mixed music recording back into its parts, tuned to the sound of African music, using mathematics (matrix factorisation) instead of a black-box model.

  4. ProjectExploration

    Multi-chain DEX indexing

An exploration of indexing decentralised exchange (DEX) data directly from the protocols across Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible blockchains, in Rust, without relying on subgraphs or substreams.

Introduction

In brief

I'm Timmy Omolana, a software engineer and researcher based in Lagos. I'm interested in how complex systems actually work, and in using mathematics and software to build things that hold up in the real world.

The Gopher's Trident

GopherCon Africa 2026 · Nairobi, Kenya · Oct 2026

Distributed transactions without two-phase commit (2PC): orchestrating the Saga pattern in Go with Temporal and deterministic design. The talk walked through a fintech loan-disbursement case study with a live demo, covering idempotency, deterministic workflow execution, and workflow IDs and business keys.
